Ad Lankford

Ad Lankford was a back of rotation/bullpen guy with a run of about 5 useful seasons in the midst of the 1910s.

He comes to the pros late, debuting at 29 years old in 1912 and cementing himself as a decent option in 1913. From then until 1918, he is, overall, solidly above average with 1915 holding the most value, but it also marks a highwater point in terms of IP that he would never approach again. By 1919, his performance plummets, and, following his historical record, we have him out of the league after 1920.

Let’s be clear: Lankford wasn’t great. He never allowed hits at a rate below league average and our projections have his ERA dropping below 3.00 only once–in the 1910s. But he was useful, and certainly could be part of a good staff for a few years.

We like these projections, and, other than some potential overall tweaks, see them remaining essentially stable in future revisions.
