José Borges may compete for the Rookie of the Year in 1904, with a career that declines from there to him being out of the league after the 1908 season.
He was hard to hit, with seemingly excellent stuff, but had poor control and a low strikeout rate. There’s not much else to say: when his hit rate stayed low and he could keep the ball in the park, he was effective; when those things didn’t happen he was hit hard.
Borges played 2B quite a bit, but not well enough to warrant much consideration as a 2-way player (he hit worse than he pitched).
We’ve added a year in 1905, but otherwise followed Borges’ historical record. Future revisions could easily move Borges out of the league entirely, but there are plenty of careers that follow an arc similar to what we’ve projected here.
