Emilio Palomino was a quality OFer, elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1956.

He’s a bit of a challenging projection, as the specific form of his offense feels a bit odd: lots of singles, an excellent eye for the strike zone, very little power, incredible speed (which resulted in more triples than you would expect), solid defense.

His speed really was exceptional, and we have Palomino among the league leaders in steals for several years. At his retirement, he would have been top 10 in career steals.

But his overall offensive contribution–especially seen through a modern lens–feels somewhat underwhelming, only eclipsing a .300 BA twice. Still, his OPS was over .700 4 times, which was certainly useful for the era.

I suspect future revision could reduce the walk rate slightly for Palomino, and the question of how much power he had really is a bit open. I think his overall career OPS probably stays roughly where we have it, and his value from 1903 to 1907 remains strong. But I’d be fine with some different shaping within that.
