Ricardo Hernández

Ricardo Hernández was a fringe OFer at best, and perhaps a player who would never see the light of day in the big leagues.

He had a good eye, and excellent speed, resulting in more triples than you would expect. Otherwise, it’s all very mundane offensively–a struggle to maintain a batting average over .200, a few walks, a few steals.

Add decent defense overall in CF and 2B, and enough to fill in at 3B, LF, and RF, and you have a player who was a useful bit piece on a roster for a few years. His career could easily end after 1910, but extending it through 1914 seems a better reflection, as his speed and defense still held some value, and 1912 was easily the best offensive year of his career.

We have added a year for him in 1906, although I could be convinced that, instead of doing that, his career shouldn’t start until 1907. Either way, you have a utility player / pinch runner type for a few years. There are worse professional arcs …
