Angel D’Meza’s story is somewhat familiar: a live arm, a few good years, and a presumed injury to derail it all.
In D’Meza’s case, 1904 and 1905 represent his most useful seasons–indeed, in those years he would be a front of rotation starter. D’Meza always struggled with his control, and in those years he is also a threat to rank among the lead leaders in walks. Those innings take their toll, however, and his innings drop dramatically in 1906 and he’s out of the league by 1908.
All of D’Meza’s career is historical–we could have added an age 21 year and we could have extended his decline past age 29, but there didn’t seem to be a compelling reason to do so.
