Ah, King Solomon. Hard to really know how to evaluate him in some ways. It’s clear that White could hit, but the question is, just how much could he hit. There are a couple of interpretations available. One is that he is a HoF talent, hitting for both average and power and competing for multiple MVP awards. The other is that he’s just a notch or two below that.
We’ve gone with the latter for now, but honestly, it’s still a topic of open discussion.
White’s walk rates were supernaturally low. Unbelievably low. So low they need some buffing in the MLEs. We had to fill in the late 1880s and a few other years, but the bulk of White’s career is well documented, including a year in the white minors.
This version of White may still accrue some black ink: hits in 1899 and 1900, and triples in 1897 and 1898.
