José Muñoz

José Muñoz was somewhere between solid and excellent, with a run in the 1900s as a legitimate, front-of-rotation starter who should have gathered an all-star appearance or two by the time all was said and done.

He was consistent across the board: hard to hit, not a ton of walks, and a solid strikeout rate. Nothing explodes off the page, but there aren’t any warning signs, either: his WHIP was only under 1.00 a single season (1902), but he spent 8 other seasons with a WHIP under 1.20.

His career collapsed quickly: 1902 to 1910 were fantastic, and he was out of the game by 1914 at the relatively young age of 32. Deeper research here may extend his career by a few years, but his effectiveness was clearly dropping by 1911/1912.
