Ping Gardner

Ping Gardner evaluates as an oh-so-slightly-below-average arm over about a decade. Average SP’s are hard to come by, so he certainly had some value.

But he also had a career greatly helped by a fantastic debut year as a 20 year old, and by never really being _poor_ until age 30. A decent innings eater who gave up a few too many hits and a few too many walks to ever really lead a rotation, although his performance in 1923 and 1925 would raise some false hope for his development.

We added a year in 1931, and believe that would be his final year in the major leagues–in reality, he sat out 1931 and was hit pretty hard in a comeback attempt in 1932.
