A short, odd career.
Salvador Rosado had 2-3 years that were somewhat impressive, and seemed to herald the rise of a 2-way star of the early 1900s. Then he had 2 pretty bad years and disappeared.
But even those years were odd. He is a great case of a borderline player who took up way more time than his historical importance warrants: such is the project.
On the mound, he had a very odd debut year where he both walked and struck out batters at rates far, far above league average. From then on, his numbers were far more in line: a little wild and a low strikeout rate. What happened in 1899? Only future research might tell.
Overall, from 1900 to 1904, he was … decent. A fair bit of traffic on the basepaths, and a growing tendency to give up homeruns, but decent.
When not pitching, he was barely above replacement level. He had virtually zero power, but a good eye for the strike zone. He didn’t add much defensively, being worse than average at both RF and 1B. But it’s possible to see him staying in games he started on the mound and being a useful end-of-roster player.
Future revisions could adjust Rosado’s usage and, of course, that 1899 year on the mound could be changed somewhat dramatically. But little should move Yoyo from being a marginal player for a few years at best.
