Nelson is the first player we hit for whom we had to invent a DoB. His professional career started in 1887, and finished with him playing the field a bit in 1906/1908. Balancing that out had us select 1867, making his career span from his debut at 19 years old into his late 30s.

Nelson is an interesting case. He hit too well to be included as only a pitcher and he pitched too well to be included only as a position player, but he never really did either well enough to be a full time player.

But, combined, he could have a 20 year career. So that’s fun.

As a hitter, he had virtually no power and only a mediocre eye. So his best years were just lots and lots of singles. As a pitcher, he gave up a lot of hits, but had great control. So a lot of baserunners but a low enough overall WHIP to be useful in a pinch. Of course, all those hits deliver more than walks do, so his ERA’s were higher than might be hoped.

We can only guess at injuries, both in his early 20s and then again in his early 30s as contributing to his lack of appearances on the mound.

There is historical data throughout his career, so the fictional years are just filler here and there.
