Ashes Jackson had a fascinating, brief career.
We’ve respected the historical length of his time in the game, giving him a nice 4 year run. One of those (1911) was very good, another 2 (1910 and 1912) solid, and his rookie campaign in 1909 was pretty rough.
Jackson took a lot of walks and had some power, a nice combination for a middle infielder, and while he struck out a bit too much, he was certainly a useful offensive piece, especially when you add in his excellent speed.
Defensively, Jackson was very good at SS and 3B and barely adequate in the OF. He had a strong arm and decent range, so it’s not clear what didn’t transfer to the corner OF: it may just have been a matter of him having more value on the left side of the infield.
Jackson is another relatively unstable projection: if further research uncovers more about why his career ended, that could make for a compelling argument to extend his career. If that were to happen, my guess is he would gain an extra 4-7 years as he clearly had the tools to hold down a starting job.
