At some point, I’ll have a blog post on the “Cuban HoF Problem,” but the bottom line here is that Hidalgo and a handful of others get buffed across the board. This moves Hidalgo into the position of being a solid OFer, with some years where he could contribute to a very strong team (1910 and 1913 especially).
He had a decent eye for the strike zone and was a bit of a slap hitter, although he added some power to his game over the second half of his career. Deadball era stats can be so depressing, but with a .240 career BA, Hidalgo was a thoroughly average hitter for his time. But average has value, and you add in his speed and defense, and he had some value.
Hidalgo was very fast, and would appear on the SB leaderboards in 1908 through 1911 (and would be a threat to be among the league leaders if he could get on base more reliably).
He was a good OFer with an OK arm, playing CF for most of his career with some time at RF and 3B.
Two things should be addressed in future revisions: first, I think we have his career ending a little abruptly, and could easily see another year or three being added. Second, we may have Hidalgo being too much of a singles hitter. There are hints that he had more power than is shown here, and I could be convinced that, over his career, he should have another 10 points of BA and another 25 points of SLG.
