Alfredo Arcaño

This one is a challenge. Some things are very clear: he had a great eye, some speed, and no power whatsoever.

He also was elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame, which poses a challenge: that means he was good *and* it means the stories about him are prone to inflation. So, what to do?

In this case, his NeL record doesn’t start until he turns 30, so the solution seems a little obvious: we filled Arcaño’s late 20s with some decent seasons that flow relatively seamlessly into the historical record. He never hits .300, but he is often a useful player, largely from his ability to get on base. In 1897, he should be among the league leaders in walks and steals, but there’s not a lot else notable here.

His career could end any year from 1905 on without argument.
