Grant Johnson

Career Batting:.307 BA .376 OBP .402 SLG. 99 HR. 10,752 PA.(1895-1915)

A truly elite middle infielder, Johnson probably falls just outside of the Hall of Fame. He hit for average and power (especially for the Deadball Era), had a very good eye for the strike zone, did not whiff very often, and was an excellent fielder at SS and 2B.

HR Johnson was clearly good enough to be an all star for many years, and probably a borderline MVP candidate for a few years between 1899 and 1906.

We have added a few years at the start of his career, and one year at the end, as his 1914 season looks too good to be his last hurrah.

If anything, this projection undersells Johnson: I could easily be convinced he would be a full time player in 1896, and that his power stats should be buffed further. He should be among the league leader in hits for a few seasons, but I could see him also being on the leaderboards for triples and homeruns on further review and research.
